Welco Lumber Corp. is a privately held, employee-owned company incorporated in British Columbia in 1983. Original founder and past president Duthie Welsford officially retired from the company in March 2002.<br> <br> Welco Lumber’s role in the industry supply chain over the last twenty years has been primarily that of a wholesale lumber distributor. We have focused on bringing quality products from various primary and secondary manufacturers to selected markets throughout Canada and the United States. Products offered have included a wide variety of commodities and specialty items, although our largest traded volumes have been from KD SPF products from British Columbia and Alberta.
We have taken great pride in delivering highly specified shipments to our valued customers on a “just-in-time” basis. To this end, we have offered rail and truck shipments direct from the mill and maintained inventories in reloads at strategic geographical locations close to the customer.
In our continuing efforts to meet and exceed both our suppliers’ and customers’ service expectations, we have worked hard to develop a winning combination…the right people, a commitment to service, and the right products delivered at an affordable price.
Welco maintains its head office in Vancouver, BC and a branch office in Winnipeg, MB. Our team is led by Brad Johansen, President and CEO, and Brian Elcock, Secretary-Treasurer. Both Brad and Brian are hands-on individuals and involved not only with the daily sales and operations of Welco but also the guidance of our longer-term strategic objectives.
We attribute much of Welco’s success to the efforts, dedication and commitment of our personnel. Sixty-three percent of our current employees have been with Welco for more than five years. This has enabled us to build a cohesive team of traders, managers, credit, traffic and support personnel that works closely together to provide great service, efficiently process transactions and resolve problems, and spearhead new initiatives. We are proud to learn that Welco has recently been named as British Columbia’s 96th largest company (in terms of revenue) by BC Business magazine.
Welco remains committed to delivering the quality products and service we have provided over the past twenty years. In addition, we are renewing efforts to add new offerings and expand our product lines on an ongoing basis (see our Products page). We are especially proud of our ability to offer exclusive products from our contract mills. Through these strategic alliances, each partner is enabled to leverage its strength and, together, bring a better product and price to the customer.
We have recently undertaken the development of a longer-term strategic plan that embodies the vision of our management team. This vision includes our continuing commitment to meet and exceed the service expectations of all our valued stakeholders…our customers, suppliers, employees, creditors and the communities we operate in. With a view to enhancing our relationships and ourselves, we invite comments and suggestions regarding any aspect of our operation to any of our contact points as noted throughout the website. |
